What I Learned From Posting Every Day for a Month!

At least most days in a month

A month ago I decided to write and post every day. I set this goal to kickstart my writing because I not only enjoy writing but would love to write for a living through freelancing or some other source.

Here are some things I learned:

I didn’t write everyday

Writing was always on mind but I definitely did not write everyday. There were days I could bust out 2 to 3 articles and even schedule the posts. Writing every single day was hard for me when I have a full time job and kids. I would start a post or would think of things every day but taking the time to finish and post was a different story. I found that when an idea struck I needed to write it down or else the thought would float away.

Rookie move —apparently posting on the weekends

The first 2 weeks I posted every single day, even on the weekends. Once I read that most writers avoid the weekends due to their engagement going down and basically wasting a post, I stopped. Every week I wanted the weekends to get ahead of the game and be able to schedule, however I rarely took the time to do so.

Although I didn’t take the time to write full posts on the weekends, I would try to get some ideas and bullet points out as a rough outline so that when I did have the time I wouldn’t be caught with nothing in mind.

I didn’t hit my 100 follower goal

And that’s okay! I wanted to see how much engagement I could get with writing more consistently. I went from posting every once in a blue moon to posting almost every day so naturally my engagement increased but engagement doesn’t equal followers. I didn’t want to follow for a follow. I follow people based on their content and if I connect well with their writing. Therefore, I really didn’t mind not reaching this goal right away but reaching a 100 followers is a goal I would love to achieve in the near future. Not focusing on it allowed me to focus on the writing.

Publications

I only took the time to submit requests to a few publications and want to continue to ask to be part of them. However, I did feel it was somewhat stressful since some posts I wanted to hurry to post so that I fulfilled my goal of posting every day but also wanted to save them for particular publications.

As I continue my journey and reading/learning from other writers, publications are major for more engagement and getting followers. I want to find publications that feel are a fit to my style and subjects I want to continue to write about.

Takeaway

I would like to say I fulfilled my goal and did what I set out to do, at least I tried. I didn’t want to put any unrealistic expectations on that month and glad I didn’t do that to myself.

I want to continue to write and work on improving my skills.

One day I will reach my ultimate goal of becoming full time writer! But till then, I am enjoying the process.
